Meranda Formally Moves Into Lagos Assembly Speaker’s Office Amid Applause From Lawmakers

News

Mojisola Meranda on Monday formally moved into the Speaker’s office as members of the Lagos State House of Assembly cheered her on.

Meranda moved into the office, which was hitherto occupied by the deposed former Speaker, Dr. Mudashiru Obasa, accompanied by her fellow lawmakers, a development that followed the recent impeachment of Obasa, who had earlier claimed during the weekend that his removal was unconstitutional.

Obasa was notably absent from the House of Assembly premises on Monday despite his assertions.

Meranda’s assumption of office was marked by a warm reception from her colleagues, who have rallied around her leadership.

At the House of Assembly Complex, the Lagos lawmakers were seen entering the Speaker’s office with her, signaling a collective endorsement of the new administration.

The absence of Obasa, who had promised to resume duties on Monday, January 27, has raised questions about his next steps.

The Lagos State House of Assembly appears to be moving forward under Meranda’s stewardship, setting a new tone for its operations.

Observers said that the transition reflects the determination of the Lagos State House of Assembly to maintain stability and uphold its legislative duties despite the recent controversies.

The coming days will reveal whether Obasa plans to challenge his impeachment further or accept the new leadership structure in the House.

Members were seen taking personal pictures with the new Speaker, Meranda while the Acting Clerk equally joined the celebration.
