Dr. Omeri is expected to spearhead FIAU’s efforts to promote and implement groundbreaking educational programmes and policies that enhance the quality and accessibility of higher education across the continent.

A letter signed by FIAU founder Paschal Anosike and co-founder Klaus Schneider conveys the appointment.

The letter says, “Given your extensive experience and strong commitment to fostering innovation in higher education, we are confident you will be an invaluable asset to the team. Your responsibilities will include coordinating with stakeholders, managing logistical arrangements, and benefiting our vision and mission to create a change in the higher education sector across the continent.”

Dr Omeri, a former Director General of the National Orientation Agency, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of leadership to FIAU.

In his reaction, the new Executive Director expressed his enthusiasm about joining FIAU, stating, “I am highly honoured to take on this new role and look forward to collaborating with universities, policymakers, and stakeholders across Africa. Together, we will drive meaningful change and empower the next generation of African leaders through innovative educational initiatives.”

The Forum for Innovations in African Universities (FIAU) is a leading organisation that fosters innovation and excellence in African higher education. Through collaborative partnerships, research, and strategic initiatives, FIAU aims to transform the educational landscape, enhance institutional capacities, and promote sustainable development.

Meanwhile, the forum’s 4th annual global conference on Innovations in African Universities will be held in Abuja, Nigeria, on July 10, 2024, at the Nigeria Airforce Conference Centre, Kado.

Dr. Omeri explained that the 2024 edition has been expanded to include tertiary institutions like the Colleges of Education and the Polytechnics.

He said this became necessary to promote the active talents of those institutions to the world, especially since this year’s edition is expected to attract foreign higher institutions and industry, with opportunities for research and development grants as well as exhibitions of innovations from these institutions.

He said there is a heavy demand for the limited spaces available for the exhibition, which will proceed with the award presentation in the evening.
