Yoruba nation’s quest for self-determination gets a boost through UNPO – Prof Akintoye

The quest for international recognition of Yoruba ethnic group for self-determination received a boost as it emerged as the 45th member of Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO).

The Leader of the Yoruba World Congress (YWC), Prof. Banji Akintoye made the disclosure in an online television monitored by our correspondent.

With the headquarters in the Hague, UNPO admitted Yoruba nation as its 45th member as a means to foster its dignity and self-determination.

The Yoruba Leader explained that the achievement became worthwhile as it would provide a place of pride for the Yorubas among other ethnic groups in the country.

While making the announcement, Prof. Akintoye said, “It is my great pleasure and pride to inform you that the Yoruba nation has been admitted to the members nation of Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO). 

“It is important because it is a great stride and it represents very important step in our collective quest to achieve the place of dignity in the country in which we live and to also have a goal of self-determination for our nation.

“Our Yoruba nation now has a voice on international stage via the machinery of UNPO which maintains a permanent place before the United Nations like European Union, African Union, US government and the governments of various other countries across the world,” Akintoye declared.
